Jim Janssen is a Professional Engineer (PE) with over 35 years of experience in environmental management and regulatory enforcement.  Jim retired from the Illinois Environmental Protection Agency in 1994 and was subsequently hired by the Illinois Sustainable Technology Center (ISTC) to provide key skills and expertise including:

1. Professional Engineer review of documents associated with contractual work that ISTC performs at Illinois industrial facilities.
2. Analyzes environmental conditions at locations throughout Illinois to determine whether environmental contaminants exist and to what extent.  This involves significant knowledge and experience to identify key indicators that would lead to further investigation and scientific testing.  It also involves significant independent decision making skills in order to make determinations and recommendations.
3. Technical document writing to develop new resources that analyze and present environmental data about environmental conditions and pollution sources and ways to control or minimize them.
4. Funding proposal writing and submission.
5. Project management, reporting, and execution.
6. Serve as a liaison between Illinois Environmental Protection Agency (IEPA) and ISTC in conjunction with ISTC’s work with Illinois businesses and other agencies.
