Metals Speciation Analysis

The sample introduction system of the PQ ExCell ICPMS has been interfaced with a HPLC system which allows us to perform metals speciation analyses. Speciation analyses to sub-ppb levels can be performed on many organometallic compounds as well as various oxyanions such as Cr(VI), arsenite, arsenate, selenite and selenate. Both C-18 and anion exchange columns have been interfaced to the ICPMS. With this unique HPLC-ICPMS system we can perform automated, speciation analyses in both isocratic and gradient elution modes. We are routinely doing arsenic speciation analyses of ground waters and finished drinking waters. In addition, we have been able to speciate organoarsenical compounds such as DMA, MMA, roxarsone and arsinilic acid. We have also performed selenium speciation of ground waters. Other elemental species we have determined using our HPLC-ICPMS system include organoselenium and mercury compounds (such as methyl mercury) and bromate and bromide.
