A long-time awards ceremony is being combined with a timely seminar this year at the University of Illinois. The Illinois Sustainable Technology Center (ISTC), a unit of the Institute of Natural Resource Sustainability at the University of Illinois, will present The Greenhouse Gas and Sustainability Symposium and the Illinois Governor's Sustainability Awards on October 28, 2009 at the I Hotel and Conference Center, 1900 South First Street in Champaign, Illinois.
Since 1987, ISTC has presented Governors awards to organizations in Illinois that have demonstrated a commitment to environmental excellence through outstanding and innovative sustainability practices. Any Illinois public or private organization is eligible to apply for an award.
The ISTC judges have reviewed this year's applications and selected finalists for the award. The list of winners is approved by the Office of the Governor. There are two Award Categories:The Governor's Award luncheon is largely open to award winners and special guests. Payment will be required for most luncheon participants. However, the symposium is free and open to the public. For additional information on the greenhouse gas and sustainability seminar as well as the Governor's Sustainability Award go to www.istc.illinois.edu.
